STD Screening

CoreMed Plus is committed to protecting your health through preventative care, including comprehensive STD screening services. Sexually transmitted diseases (STDs), also known as sexually transmitted infections (STIs), are common and can affect anyone who is sexually active. Many STDs do not cause symptoms in their early stages, which makes routine screening essential for early detection and treatment.

Our experienced healthcare providers offer confidential, accurate, and compassionate STD screening in a safe and respectful environment. We understand that this can be a sensitive topic, and our goal is to provide you with the information, testing, and support you need to protect your health and the health of your partners. Early detection allows for timely treatment, prevents complications, and helps reduce the spread of infections.

At CoreMed Plus, we believe that STD screening is an important part of routine healthcare. Whether you have symptoms, have a new partner, or simply want peace of mind, our team is here to help you take control of your sexual health.

What is sTD Screening

STD screening is the process of testing for infections that are spread through sexual contact. These infections may be caused by bacteria, viruses, or parasites and can affect various parts of the body. Screening helps detect infections early, even when no symptoms are present.

Many individuals with STDs may not realize they are infected because symptoms can be mild or absent. Without proper testing, infections can go untreated and lead to serious health complications, including infertility, chronic pain, and increased risk of other infections.

STD screening typically involves simple and quick tests such as blood tests, urine tests, or swab samples. Your healthcare provider will recommend appropriate tests based on your medical history, risk factors, and symptoms. Regular screening is an effective way to maintain your health and prevent long-term complications.

Common STDs detected by screening

Several sexually transmitted infections can be detected early through routine screening. Chlamydia is one of the most common STDs and often does not cause noticeable symptoms but can lead to reproductive complications if untreated. Gonorrhea is another common infection that can affect the reproductive tract, throat, or rectum.

HIV is a virus that affects the immune system and can be managed effectively with early detection and treatment. Syphilis is a bacterial infection that progresses in stages and can cause serious health problems if not treated early. Hepatitis B and Hepatitis C are viral infections that affect the liver and can become chronic if undiagnosed.

Human papillomavirus (HPV) is one of the most widespread infections and is associated with certain cancers. Herpes simplex virus (HSV) causes recurring sores and can be managed with proper medical care. Screening helps detect these infections early so appropriate treatment and management can begin promptly.

who should consider STD screening

STD screening is recommended for anyone who is sexually active, especially those with new or multiple partners. Individuals who do not consistently use protection, are entering a new relationship, or are planning pregnancy should also consider screening.

Even individuals without symptoms can benefit from routine screening because many infections remain silent. Early detection protects not only your health but also the health of your partner. Your healthcare provider can help determine the appropriate screening schedule based on your personal health history and risk factors.

Regular screening is an important part of responsible and proactive healthcare. It provides peace of mind and ensures that any infections are identified and treated as early as possible.

In 1988, I began my Family Practice Residency at the “old” Pontiac General Hospital. I have been providing medical care to the same community since 1991, first in Waterford and later at our current location in White Lake, where I continue to practice today. I take pride in being board certified by the American Academy of Family Physicians and remain committed to Primary Care. I am passionate about promoting a healthy lifestyle, including a proper “balanced” diet, exercise, exposure to healthy outdoor activities, and achieving work-life balance. I married my Medical School Sweetheart, Barbara, and we are fortunate to have two adult children and a granddaughter. We have been residents of Oakland County since 1988 and enjoy all that Michigan has to offer.
