WHY CHOOSE COREMED PLUS

Meet Dr. Tom Rifai

Medical Director of Metabolic Health

Dr. Tom Rifai brings decades of experience spanning internal medicine, medical nutrition, obesity and metabolic health, behavioral change, and lifestyle medicine.

His career has included clinical practice, health-system leadership, medical education, and national leadership in physician nutrition. He has served as President of the National Board of Physician Nutrition Specialists and chairs the Nutrition Working Group for the Healthy Longevity Medicine Society.

His approach to metabolic health is also shaped by a deeply personal understanding of the challenges surrounding food and behavior. His own experience with binge eating disorder helped shape a philosophy of care centered on understanding the person behind the biomarkers, not simply treating numbers.

At CoreMed Plus, Dr. Rifai brings this experience together in a personalized program designed to help patients improve metabolic health while developing practical skills they can carry forward for years to come.

The patient is Always our first priority.

The Flex5 Lifestyle: Where Medicine Meets Real Life

Sustainable health requires more than another diet, temporary program, or one-size-fits-all plan. The Flex5 Lifestyle®, developed by Dr. Tom Rifai, is a practical, physician-led approach designed to help patients turn medical and nutritional knowledge into meaningful, sustainable changes in everyday life.

The approach combines medical expertise, nutrition, lifestyle medicine, behavioral change strategies, and ongoing support to address the many factors that influence metabolic health. Because every patient’s journey is different, Dr. Rifai considers each patient’s health history, metabolic profile, lifestyle, goals, and individual barriers when developing a personalized care strategy.

At the heart of The Flex5 Lifestyle is a simple reality: knowing what to do and being able to live it consistently are two very different things. Patients learn practical strategies for navigating restaurants, travel, holidays, busy schedules, family celebrations, and changing routines while continuing to work toward their health goals.

When clinically appropriate, medical therapies may also be incorporated into a comprehensive treatment plan. The goal is not to rely on a single intervention, but to help patients build healthier patterns that are practical, sustainable, and designed for real life.

Dr. Mark Richter Bio

I grew up in Florida as the oldest of five sons. After earning my degree from the University of Florida, I pursued my medical education in the Dominican Republic. In 1988, I began my Family Practice Residency at the “old” Pontiac General Hospital. I have been providing medical care to the same community since 1991, first in Waterford and later at our current location in White Lake, where I continue to practice today. I take pride in being board certified by the American Academy of Family Physicians and remain committed to Primary Care. I am passionate about promoting a healthy lifestyle, including a proper “balanced” diet, exercise, exposure to healthy outdoor activities, and achieving work-life balance. I married my Medical School Sweetheart, Barbara, and we are fortunate to have two adult children and a granddaughter. We have been residents of Oakland County since 1988 and enjoy all that Michigan has to offer.
