Our healthcare providers take a patient-centered approach focused on early recognition, accurate diagnosis, and personalized treatment plans designed to support emotional stability, cognitive health, and overall well-being. We understand that mental health care requires sensitivity, respect, and collaboration, and we are committed to providing a supportive environment where patients and families feel heard and understood.

Understanding Bipolar Disorder

Bipolar disorder is a mood disorder characterized by significant shifts in mood, energy levels, activity, and the ability to function in everyday life. Individuals with bipolar disorder may experience episodes of depression as well as periods of elevated mood known as mania or hypomania. These mood changes can vary in severity and duration and may affect sleep patterns, decision-making, concentration, and relationships.

During depressive episodes, individuals may feel persistent sadness, fatigue, loss of interest in activities, or difficulty concentrating. Manic or hypomanic episodes may involve increased energy, reduced need for sleep, racing thoughts, impulsive behavior, or heightened emotional intensity. Early diagnosis and consistent treatment play an important role in stabilizing mood and preventing future episodes.

Understanding Schizophrenia

Schizophrenia is a chronic mental health condition that affects how a person thinks, perceives reality, and interacts with others. Symptoms may include changes in thinking patterns, difficulty organizing thoughts, hallucinations, delusions, or reduced emotional expression. These experiences can make daily activities, communication, and social interactions challenging.

Schizophrenia often develops gradually and may begin with subtle changes in behavior, motivation, or cognitive functioning. Early evaluation and treatment are essential to improving long-term outcomes and supporting independence and quality of life.

Diagnosis and Evaluation

At CoreMed Plus, evaluation begins with a comprehensive assessment that considers medical history, mental health symptoms, lifestyle factors, and overall functioning. Because mental health conditions can sometimes overlap with medical concerns, our providers carefully evaluate both physical and psychological health to ensure an accurate diagnosis.

Our goal is to understand each patient’s unique experiences and develop a clear treatment plan that addresses symptoms while supporting long-term stability and recovery.

Treatment and Ongoing Management

Treatment for bipolar disorder and schizophrenia typically involves a combination of medication management, ongoing monitoring, and supportive care. Our providers work closely with patients to manage symptoms, reduce relapse risk, and improve daily functioning. Treatment plans are individualized and adjusted over time based on patient response, life circumstances, and health goals.

In addition to medication management, care may include coordination with behavioral health specialists, counseling services, lifestyle guidance, and family education. Regular follow-up visits allow providers to monitor progress, address concerns early, and provide continuous support.

Living with a serious mental health condition can affect many areas of life, including work, relationships, and physical health. At CoreMed Plus, we emphasize whole-person care that supports emotional health, cognitive function, and overall wellness. Dr. Mark Richter Bio

I grew up in Florida as the oldest of five sons. After earning my degree from the University of Florida, I pursued my medical education in the Dominican Republic. In 1988, I began my Family Practice Residency at the “old” Pontiac General Hospital. I have been providing medical care to the same community since 1991, first in Waterford and later at our current location in White Lake, where I continue to practice today. I take pride in being board certified by the American Academy of Family Physicians and remain committed to Primary Care. I am passionate about promoting a healthy lifestyle, including a proper “balanced” diet, exercise, exposure to healthy outdoor activities, and achieving work-life balance. I married my Medical School Sweetheart, Barbara, and we are fortunate to have two adult children and a granddaughter. We have been residents of Oakland County since 1988 and enjoy all that Michigan has to offer.
